Press Release junge Welt: The 31st International Rosa- Luxemburg- Conference to Take Place on 10 January 2026 in Berlin

The 31st International Rosa-Luxemburg-Conference (RLK) will take place on 10 January 2026 at the Wilhelm Studios in Berlin-Wilhelmsruh.

This all-day event, organized by the Berlin-based nationwide daily newspaper junge Welt, brings together thousands of participants, international speakers, and a cultural program. It is the political start to the year for many left-wing activists and peace campaigners from across the German-speaking world.

The 31st RLK will be held under the motto Heading into War – Against Militarization Madness & Mobilization through Media.”

“At the 31st conference, we want to shed light on the dangers of militarism and war, both at home and worldwide. At the same time, it is particularly about outlining strategies of resistance – from media education against war propaganda, to youth resistance against the reintroduction of conscription, to trade union actions against arms exports,” explains junge Welt editor-in-chief Nick Brauns.

Once again, high-profile international speakers will attend.
Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, will speak about the current situation in the Middle East.
Italian trade unionist Cinzia Della Porta will address the role of the labor movement in the fight against rearmament and the war economy.
Economist Jörg Goldberg will speak on the epochal crisis of Western capitalism and its political consequences in Germany. Robert Saleem Holbrook, director of the Abolitionist Law Center, will address the question whether the United States is facing a civil war under Trump.
Spanish journalists Pablo Iglesias and Irene Zugasti will focus on the role of the media in the militarization of society.
A speaker from Cuba will outline the position and perspectives of the socialist island in a multipolar world. Once again, a message of greeting is expected from U.S. political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal, introduced by Noelle Hanrahan, founder of Prison Radio. On the M&R cultural stage, Jake Romm, a human rights lawyer and representative of the Hind Rajab Foundation in the United States, will speak about the struggle against lawlessness in the colonial world order.

In the concluding panel discussion, junge Welt editor-in-chief Daniel Bratanovic will debate the topic “Butter or Cannons: What Can Be Done Against Rearmament, Militarization, and the Threat of War?” with Jan Dieren (SPD, Member of the Bundestag), Tatjana Sambale (DKP party executive), Yusuf As (DIDF), Nadja Rakowitz (Association of Democratic Physicians), and Ulrich Thoden (defense policy spokesperson for the Left Party parliamentary group in the Bundestag).

The 31st Rosa Luxemburg Conference, supported by more than 30 organizations, groups, and media outlets, will take place at the Wilhelm Studios in Berlin-Wilhelmsruh, with up to 4,000 participants on site. As in previous years—when at least 40,000 people were reached via more than 20,000 end devices—the conference will also be livestreamed online. Contributions will be simultaneously translated into English, Spanish, and German.
